WATCHING MY FRIENDS AND THE PEOPLE AROUND ME SABOTAGE THEMSELVES AND BEAT THEMSELVES UP NEEDLESSLY ABOUT THEIR WEIGHT AND THEIR BODY IMAGE IS SO PAINFUL FOR ME.

I want to shake them and yell in their face STOP IT….It doesn’t have to be this way.

But clearly that’s terrible idea. And frankly, their self-sabotage and mean girl self-talk is their journey and none of my business ( I do my own coaching around this…lots. When they want help, they’ll ask…yada, yada, yada).

WHAT I CAN DO IS OFFER YOU A SURE SIGN THAT YOU’RE DIPPING INTO THE SABOTAGE, MEAN GIRL TALK ZONE.

The s#%t you hear in your head sounds like the truth.

  • It’s too hard
  • I know what to do, I just can’t make myself do it
  • It’s not fair
  • My metabolism sucks
  • I don’t have the time right now to deal with this
  • If only someone would tell me what to eat I’d do it.

When you’re believing these thoughts you’ll naturally look for lots of evidence to prove them true.

THAT’S YOUR BRAIN BEING A HUMAN BEING…IT WANTS TO BE RIGHT, SO IT LOOKS FOR EVIDENCE. AND BEFORE YOU KNOW IT YOU’RE SITTING ATOP A BIG ‘OL PILE OF BS EXCUSES.

You’ll get to wallow in despair.

Compare yourself to “everyone else”.

Chase new shiny “lose weight quick” diets.

Give up completely, and go face down in a pile of mac and cheese, followed up with a side of chocolate cake.

THE OTHER BIG TIP-OFF THAT THE THOUGHTS YOU’RE THINKING ARE 100% NOT TRUE IS…THEY HAPPEN IN A FLASH.

They’re a knee jerk reaction. A lightening bolt from your subconscious mind.

You’ve thought the exact same thoughts before.

THOSE THOUGHTS ARE YOUR SET POINT. THE PLACE ALL YOUR CONVERSATIONS WITH YOURSELF START.

The thoughts feel like crap, but they’re also like your favorite blankie, soothing and familiar.

A dopamine hit.

SO WHAT’S THE ALTERNATIVE?

Start by calling yourself out and being on to your habitual self-defeating thoughts.

How are they serving you?

What if none of them were true?

What if the second you heard these thoughts pop into your head, you said aloud, “I’m self-sabotaging” and you meant it?

Self-sabotage and beating yourself up is what’s keeping you stuck in the whole cycle of the weight loss struggle.

So this week pay close attention to your thoughts.

Become very aware of when you start down the road of despair, when you think you should be further along or it should be easier…then run the opposite direction.

You’re exactly where you’re supposed to be at this exact moment.

This is you becoming aware.

This is how you begin to change your outcome.

Happy Tuesday!
